Support families and children to grow
- feeling connected and understood together.
Joyce Chu,
Asian Family and Child Therapist in the Greater Toronto Area
a time when meltdowns weren’t daily,
worries and anxiety didn’t hold your child back, and family life didn’t feel so tired or tense… but those days feel like a distant memory.
Do you wish you had the ways to change that?
DO YOU REMEMBER...
Hi! I'm Joyce Chu.
MSSCP, Registered Psychotherapist, Canadian Certified Counsellor, Hong Kong Counselling Psychologist

I support children and families just like yours—who want to feel calmer, more connected, and more resilient.
I help my family clients walk away with greater confidence, hope, and peace of mind by empowering them to better understand emotions and behaviors, and strengthen parent-child relationships.
Many of today’s advices for children and family struggles are likely one-size-fits-all or focused only on “fixing” behavior, leaving parents feeling discouraged or children feeling misunderstood.
I know every family’s story is unique, so every step we take is tailored to your child’s needs and your family’s goals—always with growth-mindset and connection in mind.
Serves families in Markham, Stouffville, and online across Ontario, Canada
Languages offered: English, Cantonese, Mandarin
Start with WHY
Growing up...
I’ve observed how family dynamics and parenting values deeply shape how children are viewed, understood, and empowered.
Sometimes, even when adults have the best intentions, they might concentrate on the 'issues' concerning the child and miss the young ones' emotions, thoughts, and needs that lie beneath the challenging behavior.
That’s why I’m passionate about helping parents
see their child as a whole person.
Beyond the Hole — See Their Whole
Parenting can sometimes feel like
staring at the “hole” in the donut
— the tantrums, worries, or things that seem wrong.
But when we look a little wider, we see the rest of the donut: a child filled with curiosity, kindness, and strengths
— like the sparkling sprinkles on top of the donut.
How do I support you, your child, and your family?
I support families by helping parents understand their children on a deeper level — so everyone feels seen, safe, and supported. Together, we strengthen emotional connections and build healthier, more joyful relationships at home.
Using a strength-based, emotionally-focused, and attachment-informed approach that integrates play therapy, parent consultation, and family therapy, I help parents, teens, and children regulate emotions together, improve communication, and nurture resilience through connection.
How does the process look like?
First, we create a safe, trusted space where your child can express themselves freely and you can share your concerns.
Through our work, you’ll be equipped with skills and confidence to bring harmony and positive connection into your home.
Then, we work together towards your goals, like strengthening parent-child communication, fostering emotional regulation, and developing confidence.

A little bit more about me
As a mom of a pre-teen,
I embrace the everyday chaos filled with mixed (and sometimes dramatic!) emotions — from finding the right pants to wear, navigating friendships, to handling school transitions, relocation, and adapting to a new culture.
I constantly remind myself that I’m a “good enough” parent
— some days I nail it, and some days it’s cereal for dinner… and that’s perfectly okay. I focus on tuning into my child’s emotions, helping them feel seen, heard, and GOOD enough.
Creating a safe and trusting base at home is how I live out what I believe and bring into my work with families
